Virginia Holiday Projects for 2011

Back in 2004, Client Customer Evolution began its tradition of honoring the Christmas holidays with the Christmas-in-Virginia.com website. Hard to believe, that was eight years ago. In 2010, we embarked on the second Holiday adventure.christmas in virginia shiny 20111 300x133 Virginia Holiday Projects for 2011

Before the Miller & Rhoads downtown Richmond flagship store closed its doors in 1990, its beautifully decorated display windows rivaled those of Macy’s in New York City. Last year, we were contacted by the new tenant, the Hilton Garden Inn, and asked to help them “bring back the windows” of the historic Miller & Rhoads department store building. As a result, the Miller & Rhoads Charity Christmas Tree Contest was born and has since taken on a life of its own!

mr charity Christmas tree contest web logo e1315777879288 Virginia Holiday Projects for 2011We revived the beloved Christmas window tradition on the Grace Street side of the building with twenty shimmering Christmas Trees, each decorated by one of Richmond’s many fine non-profit organizations. We first decided to create a Christmas tree contest with the winning non-profit receiving a cash prize, but soon thereafter added a charity auction to the event. Everyone involved was convinced that this should be an annual event, so we already have forty charities committed to decorate a tree for the 2011 Miller & Rhoads Charity Christmas Tree Contest & Auction. One hundred percent of the auction proceeds are paid directly to their respective charities.

As gratified as we were with the results of the Richmond charity Christmas event, our vision with Christmas-in-Virginia.com was always to showcase the wonders of the season all over the Commonwealth. Therefore, we are pleased to announce a state-wide quest to find the private Virginia home most elegantly decorated for Christmas. We enthusiastically encourage everyone to join in and enjoy the 2011 Virginia Christmas House.

Virginia vs Texas in Best Business Battle

Perhaps not the first colony to claim statehood, Virginia’s territory was, however, the first discovered, established and settled for the purpose of creating commerce. The Virginia Company was a joint stock corporation charged with the settlement of Virginia, which pre-dates America by more than 170 years.

Later, young booming Texas earned its bragging rights. The anthem, “Texas Our Texas” even boasts the Lone Star State to be the “largest and grandest,” which was true for a time until 1959 when Alaska entered the Union.

Every state seems determined to grab the title of Best at something, but in 2007, CNBC began keeping a commercial score. That inaugural study pitted all fifty states against each other with an elaborate point system designed to determine which was the top state for doing business in America. When all the points were tallied, Texas was declared the runner up . . . to Virginia!

The 2008 winner was Texas with Virginia coming in at second place. The next year, the two states switched places in the standing again. In 2010, Texas edged Virginia out to regain the top spot.

So who won the 2011 competition? Drum roll please. In the exact words of CNBC, “Virginia powers back to the top spot with the best overall score in the history of our study — 1,660 out of 2,500 points. Texas slips back to number two with a respectable 1,578 points.”
